BUSINESS CONFERENCE 2017
Born in the 70s, the youngest of four daughters, to Scottish parents, Caroline Ansell is a Sussex Conservative politician.
Caroline’s professional background is in Education and over many years, variously taught young children with special educational needs, international students and Oxbridge candidates. In boarding schools she acted in loco parentis to the daughters of serving soldiers and mentored training teachers with the Uni of Brighton from where she herself had graduated with a Masters in Education. In 2008 she qualified for headship.
A shock diagnosis for one of her three sons changed, she said, “the course of my life and ultimately, took me to Parliament.” Caroline was Deputy Opposition Leader for Eastbourne Borough Council where she secured cross-party support for a Gatwick 2nd runway and South Down National Park ‘gateway town’ status and went on to represent Eastbourne for two years as its MP from 2015-17.
In this time she successfully fought high profile immigration cases to keep local families together, championed the WASPI campaign on pension justice and was influential in bringing in millions of pounds of investment for the A27 and the town’s Devonshire Park project.
In Parliament, Education remained a passion and Caroline was appointed Chair of the backbench 1922 Education Committee, working closely with ministers.
